Gratitude for our Green keepers

We appreciate how frustrating it is as golfers not to be able to get out onto the golf course after receiving that game changing piece of equipment over the Christmas holidays. Despite this disappointment we want to encourage everyone to show their support to Jason and the rest of the green staff who fight the ongoing battle with the elements.

Today (Monday 25th) we have 12 holes open on the Manor and 16 holes open on the Forest (play to start from the 10th)

"Keep up the good work lads!"

Size really can make a difference

One of the most important purchases a golfer can make is the purchase of pair of shoes. The problem faced by many when doing this is understanding the importance and benefits of making sure they are the correct style, size and width.

Many people that we ask, "have they ever been fitted for a pair of golf shoes?" Look at us as if to say "really, why is it important to get correctly fitted golf shoes?” So hopefully this article will help many of you to understand the importance and the benefits you can get from a properly fitted pair of shoes.

As a FootJoy fitting Centre, FootJoy help us answer the question of importance.

The fact is that 70% of golfers are wearing shoes that are not the best fit for them. The simple answer to the question is that it can lead to a loss of power in the golf swing of up to 26%, cause discomfort during the round and impede the performance of the golf shoes resulting in a reduction to the life of the golf shoes.

Shoe FittingFootJoy offers the most size, width and last options to ensure golfers can find the best fitting golf shoes (6-12UK Men’s W-XW and 3-10UK Women’s M-W) and with the custom MYJOYS programme ( individuals can currently choose from sizes 3-16UK and in widths from XN to XXW
– never mind the styling possibilities! With this many options to choose from, the guidelines below alongside the advice we can give you will lead to a well fitted pair of FootJoy golf shoes that will aid your performance, comfort and enjoyment of your golf game.

Signs of an ill fitting golf shoe

  • Cracks appearing across the bridge of the shoe.
  • Wear and tear to the inside of the heel of the shoe.

At Bramshaw we follow the 5 stages of the FootJoy Fitting Process:

 1) Use A Brannock - The Brannock device has been the shoe fitting standard for over 70 years. This device measures heel to toe length, arch length, and width providing a comprehensive starting point to the fitting process. It is vitally important that you take a seat whilst being measured otherwise you may end up with shoes that are too big.

2) Wear Proper Socks – Make sure you wear socks that are of a similar thickness and quality that you normally play golf in.

3) Measure Both Feet – And fit to the largest. Most people have slight differences between the left and right feet. If the difference is greater than 1 whole size or 2 sizes in width then different size left and right shoes may be needed (they can be ordered through the MYJOYS programme).

4) Check Width – Most people believe they are medium width, but in reality 40% are not. Use the Brannock device to measure this and fitting clues may show for shoes that are too wide/big - the eyelets of the shoe are almost touching, whereas, shoes that are too narrow/small - the eyelets are too wide apart. The eyelets should be approximately 5/8” – equivalent to a thumbs with  “rule of thumb”. A tip to ensure you achieve this thumb width would be, when fastening the lases make sure you always start from the bottom of the lases. many people simply pull from the top and all this achieves is fastening the top of the shoe resulting in a lack of support to the rest of your foot.

5) Snug Fit – Golf shoes should have a snug feel but not tight. Excess movement of your foot inside the golf shoe can lead to a loss of power in the golf swing, can cause blistered feet due to frictional movement and excess wear to the golf shoe itself. the sign of a snug fit is the sound of air being pushed out of the shoe as you put your fut into the shoe.

If after reading this article, you think you have fallen into the 70% of golfers wearing the wrong sized golf shoe, take those much needed steps to getting the most out of your next pair of shoes and more importantly the best out of your game.
